Circus Idea

July 06th, 2010 | Category: circus,ramblings,san diego

Yesterday I started to think about the sort of show, music and oddity I’d like to do with my first true circus show. One completely created by myself with my ideas and outlines.

Since I’m such a Lovecraft fanatic why not use that for the basic idea? Since I’m also a huge fan of ambient, minimal and noise I can slowly build it up throughout the show until at the end the people in the crowd can dance as I switch from my music to DJing other music.

I was talking to Nelly yesterday and she gave me the final idea. I still have that unfinished lsd song that I screwed around with. As the performance goes on it can be inferred that this is really a Lovecraftian acid trip gone very bad. You can watch as the main “character” goes from the start of hell to the point that they understand that nothing is really real and need to start enjoying themselves.

So far it’s just in the basics stage and I really need to start writing the full ideas out along with a time line to see how much music I need to write and the sort of weird shit the performers can do along with it. I also need to reread a bunch of Lovecraft to brush up on the whole mythos and the sensations I wish convey.

Throbbing Gristle, and Other News

April 24th, 2009 | Category: humor,music,puppy,ramblings

throbbing gristle.jpegLast night was definitely good times. Exhausted as I was I couldn’t say no to going out to see Throbbing Gristle with the Irish. After all one of them bought me a ticket, which I still have to pay back for, and they are a band I have enjoyed over the years. Of course I haven’t listened to them in far over a decade and don’t currently have any mp3s in my iTunes.

I had forgotten what good music it is. Unfortunately I forgot that they are fans of the single eight bar loop played over and over while Genesis P-Orridge sings some rather off the wall crap, and the occasional sound out burst from other samples or instrumentation. Perhaps it was how tired I was but I couldn’t really get into it too much, not enough to dance, only bob my head. All in all I’m glad I got to see them. Chalk yet another band off my list that I have to see before either they, or I, die.

I’ve created Daffy’s page on hatred. This means that her dog collar now has 100% legitimate information. Registered with pet link, collared, has a tag, now she just needs her rabies shots, which she’s too young for. Just need to watch out for those Rabbis or else she might get infected *g*

One final note. Seems a lot of my neighbors have moved, probably due to the bad economy and needing something cheaper to live in, but there are these Iraqi’s next to me. I was taking out some trash and as usual I let Daffy follow me, she’s not going to be able to get out of the apartment building. The neighbors opened their door for some reason and all of a sudden she was like “ooh! open door and no leash!” She charged in all tail wagging, low to the ground showing she wasn’t a threat and everyone in there freaked out and started jumping on couches. I couldn’t stop laughing at it because Daffy was just being a puppy and wanting to meet new people. Oh the joys of fatherhood.

Akai APC 40

January 19th, 2009 | Category: i want,music,ramblings

Akai and Ableton have teamed up and released the APC 40 controller for Ableton Live.  Damn that thing looks schweeeeeeeet.  It’s pretty much the controller everyone has ever wanted when it comes to using Live.  It’s intuitive and has all the functionality you could ever need when creating new tracks or entire live sets to be performed.  Not to mention crazy easy to switch between clips and play what’s needed.  Follow actions might not really be needed much by me anymore.

With that said, Ableton also released Live version 8.  Damn it has quite a few things that I’ve wanted.  Hopefully Ernie can keep me focused long enough to collaborate on a track or two this year, and see what comes of that.  I really shouldn’t be thinking about spending money, but I can’t help it.  Some things just give you that gear lust and there’s no going back.
